Electronic House – Best Master Suite (Bronze Winner)
Electronic House has finally announced the winners of its 2014 Home of the Year Awards, recognizing the best of the best AV solutions from the industry’s top integrators. As always, this year’s entries are spectacular, including a system designed by our very own Harry Blanchard of Elite Home Technologies (EHT), taking the Bronze in the “Best Master Suite” category.
The goal was simple: Create a great-sounding smart home, minimizing the clutter and distraction of bulky speakers and televisions while delivering a show-stopping entertainment experience.
Master Bedroom

At first glance, the master bedroom doesn’t seem like it’d be home to a 5.2 surround sound system and 60″ TV. Aside from a set of wall-mounted sconces, the mantle above the fireplace is reserved for a painting. Likewise, the room lacks an entertainment center, with no wall-mounted electronics.
Then – with the push of a button – a 60″ Sharp LED and custom Leon LCR speaker bar descend from the ceiling, concealed using an Activated Designs custom lift. When exposed, the display maintains its elegance, flush to the speaker with an edgeless design.
Two in-ceiling Sonance VP-49 surround channels hide at the opposite side of the room, partnered with a pair of in-ceiling BPS-1 subwoofers driven by a Sonance A800 amplifier. With painted grills, they’re nearly impossible to notice, almost looking like light fixtures. The system is easily operating using a Crestron MTX-3 remote.
A nearby iPad is protected by an iPort Sleeve, nestled on a tabletop induction charger, for dedicated instant IP security camera viewing and peace of mind. This keeps the homeowner updated with a live feed from the Mobotix cameras surveying the property.
Sealing the deal, a network connection to the TV allows for instant streaming using built-in apps. It’s also connected to the Crestron DM system, featuring four Verizon HD DVR boxes and two Apple TVs in the lower-level equipment rack, meaning there’s no wasted closet or cabinet space to hide components.
Master Bathroom

Dignified and modern, one would never suspect the master bathroom to boast a 2.1 sound system and 19″ television. In fact, the only technology in plain sight is the conservative Crestron TSW-1050 touch panel next to the vanity mirror.
Like the master bedroom, the bathroom relies on Sonance in-ceiling speakers and a Sonance in-ceiling subwoofer for high-end sonic performance matched with a subtle design. Additionally, the 19″ TV is hidden behind a 60″ x 32″ Séura TV mirror, suspended over a double-sink vanity. When it’s off, the display vanishes completely into the mirror, and you’d never even think it’s there.
The homeowner is an avid Pandora listener, so EHT installed a Crestron ATC Audionet card for effortless playback of Pandora (along with AM, FM, XM, and other music services) to any room of the home – including the master bedroom and bathroom.
If the system ever gets fussy, EHT is able to provide off-site troubleshooting using BlueBOLT, which is installed on the central equipment rack and enterprise-grade computer network at the home’s lower level.
While sacrifices are often made to accommodate design, that wasn’t the case for this Malvern family. EHT was able to create a practical, attractive solution that exceeded each and every one of their expectations.
Congratulations to Harry and the Elite Home Technologies installation team for putting together such an impressive system, as well as the rest of the Electronic House HOTY winners.
